Summerside, Prince Edward Island

Summerside is the second largest city in the province of Prince Edward Island and is also the principal municipality of the western part of the island. Summerside was officially incorporated as a town on April 1, 1877 and reincorporated as a city on April 1, 1995. Summerside is located on the waterfronts of PEI and separates the Northumberland Strait from the Malpeque Bay. The arrival of the Prince Edward Island Railway in 1872 became a seaport connecting Prince Edward Island with steamship to the mainland railway connections.

Summerside holds many attractions including the College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts, the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club, and the PEI Sports Hall of Fame. The city has also incorporated several abandoned industrial waterfront sites and created a new parkland for their community.

Summerside is well known throughout Canada for its splendid nineteenth century and early twentieth century residential architectures.

The amendments, which come into effect on June 23, 2008, are designed to broaden the scope of record keeping and reporting requirements. This means that real estate salespersons and brokers will have new obligations under the PCMLTFA.

Requirements as of June 23, 2008 will include a receipt of funds record for all transactions regardless of the amount of funds received (unless funds are received from a financial entity or public body). In addition, a client identification record will be required to be completed with respect to every purchase and sale regardless of the existence of a cash deposit. Salespersons and brokers will be required to verify and record the identification of each client involved in a particular sale.
