St. John's, Newfoudland
St. John's, Newfoundland is the oldest city in Canada, and is the most easterly city in North America. Because of its geographical location, St. John's, Newfoundland is the first city to celebrate the beginning of each year at midnight on December 31st, and is the eastern endpoint of the Trans-Canada Highway. St. John's is a sister city with Waterford, Ireland.
St. John's is home to North America's oldest annual sporting event, the Royal St. John's Regatta. The regatta is so important in St. John's that the day of the event (the first Wednesday with nice weather in August) is a civic holiday. This is one of the only weather-dependent holidays in the world!

Don't Be Alarmed, I.D. Required
As of June 23, 2008, your REALTOR® will have to ask for identification, as in picture I.D. In June 2007, the federal government approved amendments to regulations under the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering)and Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTFA). The amendments, which come into effect on June 23, 2008, are designed to broaden the scope of record keeping and reporting requirements. This means that real estate salespersons and brokers will have new obligations under the PCMLTFA.
Requirements as of June 23, 2008 will include a receipt of funds record for all transactions regardless of the amount of funds received (unless funds are received from a financial entity or public body). In addition, a client identification record will be required to be completed with respect to every purchase and sale regardless of the existence of a cash deposit. Salespersons and brokers will be required to verify and record the identification of each client involved in a particular sale.

Feature Story
"I am originally from Newfoundland, but am now living in Alberta. Not to say that Alberta isn’t a nice place to live, but I never realized how beautiful and peaceful Newfoundland was until I left. I can really say that I am PROUD to be a Newfoundlander!!! The whole atmosphere, the people, the history are like total opposites! I miss Newfoundland with my whole heart and soul, and would love to go back soon, but with the shortage of jobs, all of us Newfies living in Alberta will be stuck in Alberta while wishing we were back home in Newfoundland!!! 90% of Alberta are Newfoundlanders, and personally I don’t think that is really fair!! We should be able to be home where the heart is and at the same time be able to live comfortably! All I have to say is I wish I was HOME SWEET HOME!!"
