Scarborough is a suburb located in the East District of Toronto, Ontario. In 2001, Scarborough’s population was 593,297—second to North York. A significant portion of the population is comprised of new immigrants, you can find numerous different multicultural areas within Scarborough. “Scarberia” is the most popular nickname of the area. It is a reference to its distant location from downtown Toronto.
There is less urban density and business infrastructure developments compared to downtown Toronto. Scarborough is said to be the greenest part of Toronto. Some significant features of the area are the Scarborough Bluffs, Rouge River Valley, and Highland Creek. The Valley is home to a variety of wildlife, such as the fox, deer, and coyote.

In June 2007, the federal government approved amendments to regulations under the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering)and Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTFA). The amendments, which come into effect on June 23, 2008, are designed to broaden the scope of record keeping and reporting requirements. This means that real estate salespersons and brokers will have new obligations under the PCMLTFA.
Requirements as of June 23, 2008 will include a receipt of funds record for all transactions regardless of the amount of funds received (unless funds are received from a financial entity or public body). In addition, a client identification record will be required to be completed with respect to every purchase and sale regardless of the existence of a cash deposit. Salespersons and brokers will be required to verify and record the identification of each client involved in a particular sale.
The Ontario Government has set the rent increase guideline at 1.8% for 2009.
